What Is a GST Calculator?

A GST Calculator is an online tool that helps estimate the Goods and Services Tax on a taxable amount. It can calculate the GST amount added to a price or work backwards from a price that already includes GST to estimate the original taxable value.

The SarvSeva.com GST Calculator is designed for quick estimates. Select a rate, enter an amount and choose Add GST or Remove GST. The result displays the base amount, total tax and an indicative CGST-SGST or IGST breakdown according to the selected transaction type.

How to Calculate GST

Adding GST to an Amount

When GST is added to a taxable amount, use the following formulas:

GST Amount = Taxable Amount × GST Rate ÷ 100
Final Price = Taxable Amount + GST Amount

For example, if the taxable amount is ₹1,000 and the selected rate is 18%, the GST amount is ₹180 and the total price is ₹1,180.

Removing GST from an Inclusive Price

If a price already includes GST, simply subtracting the GST percentage from the total is not the correct reverse calculation. Instead, use:

Taxable Amount = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100)
GST Amount = Inclusive Price − Taxable Amount

For example, a price of ₹1,180 including 18% GST represents a taxable value of ₹1,000 and GST of ₹180, before any applicable rounding.

Difference Between CGST, SGST and IGST

CGST and SGST

For an eligible intra-state supply, Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST) are generally applied together. For example, where a total GST rate of 18% applies, the indicative split is 9% CGST and 9% SGST. The exact tax treatment depends on the applicable rules and transaction.

IGST

Integrated GST (IGST) generally applies to eligible inter-state supplies. If the total GST rate is 18%, the illustrative IGST amount is calculated at 18% of the taxable value. Use the correct transaction classification when preparing an actual invoice or tax return.

Common GST Rates

This calculator includes selectable rates such as 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% for calculation purposes. These are not a declaration that any particular product or service falls under a given rate. Applicable GST rates, exemptions and classifications depend on the specific supply and current official rules.
